New in 2012
A new Tai Chi program, for students ages 18 and older, is available for students who are looking to improve their flexibility, core strength, balance and overall general conditioning. The Tai Chi classes take place from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and cost is $100 for 10 classes. They are taught by Grand Master Mathew Bayley with the Vail Academy of Martial Arts, who says the low impact classes offer students a mid-day break that will rejuvenate them while they improve their overall health. "Tai Chi is the perfect activity for a mid-day break that will leave students refreshed and ready for the rest of their afternoon and week."
According to Bayley, who has taught Tai Chi for the past 30 years, Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese form of exercise that provides relaxation while conditioning the body. Tai Chi involves flowing movements with carefully prescribed stances and positions, says Bayley. "Students of all ages and levels will enjoy how Tai Chi helps reduce stress while they move through the hour at a self-paced level," said Bayley. "Tai Chi is often considered meditation in motion and provides a sense of inner calm."
