The Vail Golf Club is located approximately 100 miles west of Denver or 147 miles east of Grand Junction along Interstate 70. Take exit 176, turn on to South Frontage Road (east), travel east approximately 1.5 miles, then turn right on Vail Valley Drive. Follow this approximately ½ mile until you arrive at the Vail Golf Club.

Plain, a longtime resident of the Vail Valley, previously worked at the Vail Golf Club in the early 1990s and returned to Vail in 2007 after working at Eagle Ranch Golf Club. Plain is passionate about junior golf programs and aims to bring young people back the Vail Golf Club through the First Tee Golf Program. Plain has extensive experience in the golf industry. She played collegiate golf at Oklahoma State University and two years as a professional on the Future’s Golf Tour. She is an avid cyclist, hockey player and skier.

Sutherland’s appointment in 2007 marks a homecoming to the Vail Golf Club where she was Assistant Golf Professional from 1985-1992. Prior to her return to Vail, Sutherland enjoyed numerous successful endeavors outside the area, most notably 15 years as the Women’s Golf Coach at Texas A&M University in College Station, where she led her team to elite-level status as 1998, 2006 and 2007 Big XII Champions.

Johnson is a recent graduate of Ferris State University in Michigan where he studied Professional Golf Management. Involved with golf since he was a child, Johnson enjoys teaching the game of golf to all ages and abilities, as well as organizing different types of tournaments.
Steve Sarro, Golf Course Superintendent

Golf Course Superintendent at Vail Golf Club since 2006, Sarro has embraced creating a memorable golfing experience for Vail’s golfers. Prior to Vail, Sarro was Superintendent for the East Course at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. His experience includes tournament experience with the 1995 USGA Women’s Amateur Championship and the 33rd Ryder Cup Matches in 1999. In 2000, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Most notably, Sarro was awarded the 2006 Golf Course Superintendent of the Year Award by the Rocky Mountain Golf Course Superintendents Association (RMGCSA), 2006 Turf Professional of the Year Award by the Rocky Mountain Regional Turfgrass Association (RMRTA) and the 2007 Golf Person of the Year Award by the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame for his golf course relief efforts in New Orleans following hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Sarro is board member for RMGCSA and the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame.

Gompf joined the Vail Golf Club in 2007 and has since taken great pride in helping to maintain and improve Vail’s course conditions. Prior to Vail, Gomf spent five years at The Piqua Country Club in Ohio where he assisted in maintaining the Donald Ross-designed course.
Tony Giroux, 2nd Assistant Superintendent
Hometown: Smithfield, Maine
Colby-Swayer College B.S. Degree 2005
Tony Giroux graduated from Colby-Sawyer College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree, focusing his studies in exercise science. Originally from Maine, Tony moved to the Vail Valley shortly after graduating and has been with the Vail Golf Club since 2006. He enjoys playing the back nine at the Vail Golf Course, while enjoying the other amenities available in Vail.
