Registration fills quickly for the Vail Recreation District's youth summer sports camps. Camps provide children ages four and older with an opportunity to develop new skills and refine existing skills in baseball, basketball, sports training, lacrosse, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, tennis, soccer and more.

Vail Gymnastics Center
A week-long summer camp for children ages four and older that not only includes gymnastics, but also outdoor adventures such as hiking, visiting local parks and excursions to Dobson Ice Arena, the Imagination Station, Vail Nature Center and more. Children are grouped according to age and skill level. Children must be six years or older to attend the full day camp. Call 970-479-2287.

Youth Martial Arts Camps    |    9 a.m. to Noon  |  June 7-11, July 19-23 and Aug. 2-6
The VRD's new youth martial arts camps will introduce children ages five to 12 to all aspects of martial arts. The camps are for all ability levels and will be operated by Vail Martial Arts Academy instructor Mathew Bayley. They will include instruction on all major Japanese, Korean, Chinese and American martial arts, plus include instruction from the national, award-winning Alert Kids Kidnap Prevention Program. Cost is $150 per camp, per child. This multi-sport program was developed to give children ages 4 to 7 a positive first step into athletics. The essentials of baseball, basketball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun.  Games and activities are designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawks staff are trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes.
Sport-Specific Requirements:
All participants receive a T-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 8:1 Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle, running shoes and sunscreen.

Experienced local coaches and athletes lead Girl's Soccer Academy participants in skills-based sessions including footwork, passing, receiving, touch, shooting and agility in an unique environment. The Vial Golf Club will offer five sessions of three-day PAR anhd Birdie camps late June through early August.  In addition, the Youth Foundation's First Tee of Eagle county will offer a variety of summer programs, many of which take place at the Vail Golf Club. These include PAR, Birdie, Player's League and Girl's Night Out Programs.

Lacrosse combines the basic skills used in soccer, basketball, and hockey into one fast-paced, high-scoring game. Athletes will learn all the fundamentals of stick handling, cradling, passing, and shooting in a fun, non-checking environment. Our staff helps campers learn not only the sport of lacrosse, but also important life skills such as respect, teamwork, and discipline. Designed for ages 7 to 14, this camp ensures that every athlete will come away with a deep understanding of the game and its traditions.
Sport-specific Requirements:
All participants receive a Tt-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 12:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, a lunch and snack (for programs over four hours) or two snacks (for programs four hours or less), a water bottle, running shoes, a mouthpiece, protective gloves, a helmet with full mask (or goggles for girls lacrosse), a lacrosse stick, and sunscreen. *Limited lacrosse kits available for online rental. A new camp for high school-age players who are looking to either learn the sport of beach volleyball or improve their skills. Players will be grouped according to ability with a maximum of 10 players per coach. The camp will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. then again from 1-3 p.m. for grades 9-12 and cost $125 per player. Grades 6-8 will pay from 1 to 3 p.m. and cost is $75 per player. 970-479-2280

Dobson Arena also administers a youth hockey camp every July. This camp is great for all ages. Now in its 24th year, Bob Johnson Hockey School has become as annual reason to vacation in Vail in the summer. The camp focuses on the fundamentals of hockey and offers three hours of on ice instruction with another hour off the ice. Coaches include Mark Johnson, current coach of the 2010 Women's Olympic team and also a player on the 1980 Olympic Team who pulled off the Miracle on Ice.

Since 1999, TetraBrazil Soccer Academy has been bringing Brazilian soccer expertise to American soccer players. TetraBrazil offers players the opportunity to experience first-hand, the kind of soccer training that has made Brazil the most successful soccer nation in the world. The camp will combine learning Brazilian techniques, footwork and moves – and fun.

Vail Tennis Center
Junior Tennis Camps will take place three times throughout the summer and take participants tennis skills to the next level. Camps will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and costs are $175 for Vail residents and $195 for outside guests. In addition, junior tennis lessons take place throughout the summer with a ratio of six students per coach. Lessons are from 9 to 10 a.m. for ages five to six, 10 to 11 a.m. for ages seven to nine, 11 a.m. to noon for ages 10 to 12 and noon to 1 p.m. for ages 13 to 17. Costs are $65 per week or $60 per week for consecutive weeks. Registration for tennis camps and lessons will be available beginning in May. 970-479-2294
